Rules

  • Slide all tiles together. Equal neighbours merge once per move, doubling their value and adding it to your score. A 2 or 4 appears after each valid move. Reach 2048, then keep playing if you like.
  • Undo and redo up to 32 moves. Undo also restores the next random tile.
  • Your game and best score stay on this device. Connected to Zlobby, the game can also save through your account.

Controls

  • Arrow keys or WASD. On touchscreens, swipe in any direction.

The game guide

Merge Numbers, the 2048 merging puzzle

Slide luminous tiles, combine matching numbers and build your score. Reach 2048, then decide whether to keep playing.

How to play

The board has 4 rows and 4 columns. Use the arrow keys or WASD, or swipe on a touchscreen.

  1. Choose a direction

All tiles slide together as far as possible. Look at the whole board before moving.

  2. Merge equal values

Each tile can merge at most once per move. Its doubled value is added to your score.

  3. Make room for new tiles

    A valid move creates a 2 with 90% probability or a 4 with 10% probability.

Useful habits

Keep a corner

Try keeping your largest tile near a corner to organise smaller values.

Leave room

Empty cells give you more options. Consider where the next merge could happen.

Use your history

Undo and redo up to 32 moves. Undo also restores the next random tile.

Score and leaderboard

The leaderboard keeps your best score, calculated from a validated move journal. Submission requires your consent and a Zlobby account.

To stop voluntarily, choose Finish and save: this ends the game before offering score submission. At a natural end, choose Save my score.

Questions about Merge Numbers

What happens at 2048?

Choose Continue to aim higher. Continuing does not submit your score.

When is the game over?

When the board is full and no neighbouring tiles can merge.

Can I resume later?

Your game is saved on this device. Resume restores your current board.

Does every command create a tile?

No. If the board does not change, no tile appears. Waiting adds no tiles either.

Can I rank an older game?

Older games cannot enter the leaderboard. Start a new game to record a compatible journal.
