How to write a good looking-for-players post
An effective LFG post is not designed to appeal to everyone. It gives compatible people enough information to answer confidently — and lets everyone else recognize that the session is not for them.
Seven details that prevent wasted replies
Start with the facts: game, platform, region or server, goal, roles, schedule and atmosphere. Skill level only becomes useful when tied to a goal such as learning, progression, ranked play or advanced content.
Say what can change. A flexible start time, a possible secondary role or a beginner-friendly session can widen the fit. State mandatory requirements clearly without turning the post into a hostile checklist.
A readable LFG post structure
- 01Goal: name the mission, mode or kind of session.
- 02Context: state the platform, region and genuinely necessary prerequisites.
- 03Current group: say how many spots remain and which roles are covered.
- 04Schedule: give a date, time, timezone when needed and approximate duration.
- 05Expected experience: describe useful knowledge without making it a job interview.
- 06Communication: say whether voice is required, optional or unnecessary.
- 07Atmosphere: be explicit about relaxed, focused, teaching or competitive play.
Example: “PC co-op session Friday at 9 p.m., around two hours. We are two players looking for a support role. First-time players welcome, no spoilers, voice optional.”
Why the example works
It promises neither a win nor unverifiable performance. It describes a specific experience. A reader can immediately check the platform, time and atmosphere.
Avoid phrases such as “serious players only” without defining serious. Punctuality, voice participation, a regular schedule and a drive to improve are different expectations. Name the desired behavior instead of applying a label.
Mistakes that repel good players

A long rejection list with no session description feels hostile and hides the useful information.
A vague schedule
“Tonight” or “often” may not be enough. A time and timezone make the commitment concrete.
An unstated goal
Farming, learning, ranked play and relaxing create very different expectations in the same game.
Turn the post into a useful lobby
A good post should be easy to update. When a role fills or a time changes, edit the information instead of leaving conflicting messages in several places.
