How to recruit for your guild
Building a solid guild, esports team or TTRPG group: write a clear pitch, define roles, screen applicants and keep your members over time.
Recruiting means selling a project
A good recruit doesn't join a list of names, they join a project and a vibe. Before you post your ad, be able to answer three questions: who you are, where you're heading, and what you expect from a new member. The clearer it is, the better the people it attracts.
Recruiting at random in a global chat is exhausting and ineffective. A precise ad filters naturally: those who reply already know what to expect.
You don't recruit a rank, you recruit a person you'll actually want to play with every week.
Write an ad that makes people want in
Skip the generic copy-paste. An ad that works is honest and concrete: it states the game, the target level, the session pace and the mindset. A sincere tone beats a promise of glory nobody will keep.
Be transparent about what's serious and what's just for fun. A casual guild and a competitive team don't look for the same profiles, and that's perfectly fine.
What a good ad includes
- 01The game and mode you're targeting, with no ambiguity.
- 02The roles to fill (tank, support, DPS, IGL, GM…) and the level expected.
- 03The pace: sessions per week, time slots and time zone.
- 04The mindset: competition, progression or pure fun, stated clearly.
- 05How to apply: what you expect from an application message.
Screen without getting it wrong
When applications come in, look beyond the stats. Detailed profiles (platforms, level, role, availability) give you a first read, but a short chat often says more: real availability, expectations, communication style.
A trial run over a few sessions avoids bad surprises on both sides. A small, tight-knit team beats a bloated roster that never plays together.
Keep your members over time
Recruiting is only step one. What makes people stay is consistency and respect: scheduled sessions, a lively chat, clear roles and genuine recognition. A team that communicates well rides out defeats without falling apart.
